Negative taken of Eliza Miller. Eliza Ann Ross Miller was born in Arkadelphia, Clark County, Arkansas in 1867. Mrs. Miller was a former school teacher who became an admired business executive, civic and religious leader. Eliza Miller married Rev. Abraham H. Miller in 1887; together they had five children who lived to adulthood. The Millers acquired large amounts of land that Eliza took an active role in managing. Mr. and Mrs. Miller both served as trustees for Arkansas Baptist College in Pulaski County Arkansas, which Mrs. Miller continued to support after her husband's death in 1913. Miller purchased land from the Sacred Heart Academy Sisters in Helena, which she donated to the Helena school board for an African American high school. Dedicated in 1926, the high school was named after her, Eliza Miller High School. Miller was also the first women to build and operate a movie theater in Arkansas, called the Plaza Movie Theater in Helena. Eliza Miller operated the Movie Theater until her death in 1937.
